Jodi M Slaughter, MA, LRIC
Professional Disclosure Statement
Professional Standards: I practice as a Licensed Resident in Counseling (LRIC) in the state of Virginia, under the supervision of Meichell Worthing, LPC, providing individual and family counseling. My supervisor can be reached via email at meichell@lighthouse-counselingllc.com.
Education and Experience: I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Counseling from Old Dominion University with a minor in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Community Counseling. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Liberty University. My clinical experience includes trauma, crisis, PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress, transition, adjustment disorder, marriage and family, and other mental health disorders and issues as prescribed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th Edition of the American Psychiatric Association (2013) to assist in coding any diagnosis I may determine to be appropriate to your situation. This coding serves the purpose of providing a framework upon which I can view your situation and plan treatment. If it is determined that my experience and skills will not meet your needs, I will make an appropriate referral.
Therapeutic Orientation: I approach counseling from a trauma-informed approach while utilizing skills from other therapeutic approaches as I deem appropriate. I appreciate parts of CBT, EMDR, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Person-Centered, and Inner Healing. I am also certified in EMI (Eye Movement Integration). I am passionate about joining clients in the process of growth toward healing, wholeness, identity, purpose, and restoration. I do provide spiritual interventions when requested by the client, such as inner healing prayer and faith-based discussions where they apply to the client’s needs and when requested by the client. I also often use manualized treatments and bibliotherapy, which means that I may assign you books to read or workbooks to work through as part of our approach.
Code of Ethics: As an LRIC in the state of Virginia, I am required to follow the ethical and professional standards of the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics. This code of ethics outlines my responsibilities to uphold a professional and appropriate relationship with clients. Outlined in this code are the values of the counseling profession and the purpose of the therapeutic relationship between counselors and clients. Counseling theory and my Christian faith greatly influence the path explored in sessions.
