Professional Disclosure Statement
Welcome! Whether you stumbled upon Lighthouse or were referred by a trusted friend, you’ve come to a great place! I enjoy working with men, women and couples who are working through anxiety, depression, OCD, marriage struggles, childhood trauma, family of origin issues, life adjustments, athletic performance anxiety and work/life burnout.
Professional Standards: I am a Licensed Resident in Counseling (LRIC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). My clinical work is supervised by Beth S. Hunter, LPC (License # 0701004221) . My supervisor may be reached via email at beth@lighthouse-counselingllc.com. I will treat each client with kindness and respect and believe that healing is possible with the help of God’s grace and a therapeutic client/counselor partnership.
Education and Experience: I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from James Madison University and a Masters degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University. Before coming to Lighthouse, I was a Licensed School Counselor working with underserved students. Additionally, I provided care for hurting individuals and couples at a local church. I have additional training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), ERP (Exposure Response Prevention), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method for couples, multiculturalism, Attachment Theory, Intimacy issues, Eye Movement Integration (EMI) and trauma informed therapy.
Therapeutic Orientation: My goal is to match my counseling approach to the client’s specific needs. During the initial visits, information is gathered to identify problems and discuss treatment goals. Assessment may include questionnaires and psychological testing. After the assessment is complete a decision will be made about whether your needs can be best met by me or another counselor.
My orientation to counseling is based on the premise that our beliefs produce our thoughts, which produce our feelings, which then produce our behavior. This is a Cognitive Behavioral approach. I also believe that many of our core beliefs are influenced by our family of origin and past experiences. This is generally known as a Psychodynamic approach to counseling. If the client chooses, we will integrate their personal faith/spirituality into our work together.
You are about to begin a journey that will feel challenging at times but will also bring healing and hope to the parts of you that have been hurting. If you are ready, let’s do this!!
