Brad Taylor, MS, LPC, LSATP
Professional Disclosure Statement
Professional Standards: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner with a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling. I believe in treating each client with dignity and respect and feel a responsibility to counsel in a way that is consistent with their personal values.
Education and Experience: I received a masters degree in professional counseling from Grand Canyon University in 2015. I also received a masters degree in criminal justice in 2008 from St. Leo’s University. I worked in various jobs within both the juvenile justice and adult criminal justice system earlier in my career. I worked full-time as a probation and parole officer, prior to transitioning to a substance abuse and mental health counselor full-time in 2010. I have experience providing counseling in various settings to include jail-based programs, residential programs, and outpatient counseling programs. I licensed to practice in Virginia (License # 0701007601 & 0718000469). I am also licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
Therapeutic Orientation: Every attempt will be made to match the counseling approach to your specific needs. During the initial visits, information is gathered to identify problems and discuss treatment goals. Assessment may include questionnaires and psychological testing. After the assessment is complete a decision will be made about whether your needs can be best met by myself or if an outside referral is needed.
My orientation to counseling is based on the belief that my clients all have the strength and ability to improve their mental health, relationships, and overall quality of life. My primary goal is to establish a trusting relationship with my clients that allows me to effectively support them with achieving the goals and objectives that brought them to counseling. I also believe that our individual functioning and interpersonal relationships are significantly influenced by our individual mental and physical health, our family experience, cultural, childhood and adulthood life experiences, trauma, and our spiritual beliefs. My counseling approach will include the use of cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, interpersonal therapy, spirituality, and trauma informed interventions.
Code of Ethics: As stated before, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I follow the ethical and professional standards of the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics. This code of ethics outlines my responsibilities to uphold a professional and appropriate relationship with clients. Outlined in this code are the values of the counseling profession and the purpose of the therapeutic relationship between counselors and clients. Following the ACA code of ethics will allow me to function at my highest potential and to do what is in your best interest as my client.
At the same time, the direction given in my therapy sessions is influenced by both my personal beliefs and counseling theory. If your core beliefs differ from mine, please discuss this with me. Please feel free to share any concerns and ask questions about any aspect of the counseling process including treatment approach, progress, and the termination (the end) of the counseling process.
