BINDING UP BROKEN HEARTS
Meichell Worthing started Lighthouse in 2008 wanting to see Jesus bind up the broken-hearted (Isaiah 61). She began expanding Lighthouse by taking on clinicians with other specialties in October of 2018. The goal is to establish a multi-faceted, solidly Christian, clinically excellent therapy team to meet the varying needs of the community of Hampton Roads and beyond. Lighthouse has contracts with several organizations that serve the underprivileged including PiN Ministry (serving the homeless), Freekind, Survivor Ventures, Safe House Project and Latisha’s House (all anti-sex trafficking organizations).

We at Lighthouse attempt to live out our lives and ministry to the community with the desire to live in the love of the Father, the Salvation of the Son and the Power of the Holy Spirit. While we are a distinctly Christ-Centered Counseling, Consulting, Coaching, Somatics and Prayer practice, we do not discriminate against race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or socio economic background. We do not discriminate or refuse services to anyone who lives or believes outside of the our Judeo-Christian Biblical worldview. We do not expect our clients to fit within or live their lives from our worldview. Free will is a gift from our Creator to make choices about beliefs and behavior even if others disagree with those beliefs, choices or behaviors.

While we are a distinctly Christ-Centered Counseling and Coaching practice, we do not discriminate against race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or socio economic background. We do have providers equipped to provide effective mental health care to the LGBTQ+ community. Our Director holds to a biblical view that “Holy Sex” can only be defined as being between a biological man and a biological woman and only within the context of marriage. We do not discriminate or refuse services to anyone who lives or believes outside of this view of sexuality but want the public to be fully informed on where our leader stands. We do not expect our clients to fit within or live their lives from our worldview. Free will is a God-given right to make choices about beliefs and behavior even if others disagree with those beliefs, choices or behaviors.

FAQs
When you first call Lighthouse Counseling and Psychotherapy LLC on one of our appointment lines, you will be asked a series of questions to determine if our services are able to accommodate your needs at that time. Then, our administrative staff will send over a packet of paperwork to be completed. Once the paperwork is completed, they will set you up with the clinician who best is most likely to be able to meet your needs. An intake session will then be scheduled between you and the assigned clinician and they will take it from there!
Absolutely! As a practice, we do primarily act out of a Christian ethic/moral standard. However, we do not discriminate against clients based on religion and will not bring Christianity and/or religion into sessions unless the client requests and consents to such.

Each licensed clinician is bound to their own board’s code of ethics. I.e. Licensed Professional Counselors follow the Board of Counseling Code of Ethics. However, all of our clinicians have chosen to follow a specific professional code of ethics outside of that as well. The code of ethics followed by each clinician is mentioned in their professional disclosure statement.
One main difference in coaching is that we are NOT trained mental health professionals. We are trained in specific areas of coaching. We do not diagnose any of our clients. We do not take insurance. This is a non-medical services that is about you assessing goals you want to accomplish for your future and having someone walk alongside you as you make changes to achieve those future oriented goals.
Coaches encourage and strengthen the skills you already have, allowing you to move forward in your life without having to dive deep into your past. If we find that what you need is clinical therapy, we will refer you to that service either in conjunction to or instead of coaching. This is a distinctly Christian service and all of our coaches work from a strictly Christian worldview. We are able to encourage you in the present and help you focus on the future. Our main goal is to help you find answers for your life in the context of your relationship with Jesus, as we walk alongside you and help you discover them.
The most important part of coaching is that we are going from zero to 10, focusing on the positive, present and moving FORWARD. We provide Practical tools you can put into action NOW. We want to help improve your life and relationships, focusing on fruits you want to produce in the present that you can take into your future. We as coaches are trained to help you achieve goals that will take you from feeling stuck to thriving in your walk with the Lord. This functions as a form of Christian Life Skills and Discipleship.
