Ashton Peterson MA, LPC

Professional Disclosure Statement

I work primarily with young children and adults. I have a passion to work with young children (5-10) to overcome behavioral challenges and women (postpartum) to work through challenges in Motherhood by coming alongside them towards positive change and healing.

Professional Standards: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I received my license to practice independently in Virginia in 2025. I follow the ethical and professional standards of the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and I adhere to the American Association of Christian Counseling (AACC) Code of Ethics. These codes of ethics outline my responsibilities to uphold a professional and appropriate relationship with clients. If you have any concerns or questions about the counseling process, please share this with me. It is important we are on the same page and your goals in counseling are being met.

ACA Code of Ethics can be reviewed here https://www.counseling.org/resources/ethics and AACC Code of Ethics can be reviewed here: https://www.ibccglobal.com/aacc-code-of-ethics/

Education and Experience: I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Old Dominion University in 2014. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University in 2017. I completed an internship at Braye-Gonzalez & Associates, a private practice in 2017. I completed my residency under the supervision of an LPC at Compass Youth and Family Services where I did intensive in-home therapy, outpatient therapy, and conducted assessments. I gained experience in working with children and adults with evidence-based practices while managing behaviors, social-emotional deficits, suicidal ideations, life transitions, and personal growth.

Therapeutic Orientation: My therapeutic approach includes Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a light Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approach, art-based and strength-based interventions, and a faith-based integration. I am passionate about walking alongside my clients in helping them overcome challenges and grow in positive change and healing. It is important to me that there is a strong therapeutic relationship in which clients feel comfortable and have a safe place to express their needs and work on their goals. I provide counseling for young children, ages 5 to 10 years old with behavioral concerns and adults with personal challenges and life transitions. I utilize practical tools and may assign these tools to work through as part of our approach to positive growth in mind, body, and spirit.

I plan to walk with you on this journey and provide excellent care, but if I am unable to assist in your needs I will refer you to other providers who are a better therapeutic fit. I respect the beliefs of all of my clients and go where they lead. However, I am influenced by my Christian beliefs and will utilize spiritual integration as desired by each client. I look forward to coming alongside you on this journey to more positive and healthy living.
